The 12th Chamber Golf Day took place at Cherwell Edge Golf Course on Thursday 23rd April with teams playing a game of Texas Scramble over 18 holes.
The teams, Wellers Wonders, Castle Quay, Brown & Co, BRI Hackers, Family Connections, Auditel, Deddington Old Boys Golf Society, Nat West, 2 teams from Spratt Endicott – Spratt Endi-HOLE, The Bicester Duffers, and 3 teams from Bloxham Mill – The Go Getters, Silent but Deadly and The Untouchables. Unfortunately title holders, VSG, were playing golf at Gleneagles the following day so were unable to defend their title for the 3rd year in a row but popped down to hand over the Wellers Cup.
After a nippy start the sun came out and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. The teams were competing for the prestigious Wellers Cup. Additional prizes were also on offer for nearest the pin and longest drive.
Hole 7 was the Charity hole where golfers had to hit the ball onto the Green. Michelle Lewis did a sterling job of policing the hole and managing to persuade all golfers to hand over their donation! At £5.00 a shot, £275.00 was raised to be shared equally between the three Chamber member charities, Age Concern UK, BYHP and Dogs for the Disabled.
Cherwell Edge Golf Club provided the returning golfers with a fantastic 2 course hot meal prior to the winners being announced.
Simon Smith from Wellers took to the floor to announce the winners. Nearest the pin was won by Nathan Hawkes of Wellers Wonders and the longest drive was won by Stu Allen of NatWest both receiving a bottle of Champagne.
Only the top 2 teams received prizes and after going through all the teams Simon finally came to the last 2. In second place with 56.2 points were Brown & Co receiving bottles of red and white wine each. Winners were Wellers Wonders with a staggering 51.5 points all taking home a bottle of wine each.
