Banbury Welcomes New Mayor

On Tuesday, 9th May, Cllr Shaida Hussain was sworn in as the new mayor of Banbury during a ceremony at Banbury Town Council’s annual meeting.

Mayor Hussain takes over from Cllr Colin Clarke, who served as Banbury’s mayor for the previous twelve months.

John Colgrave, a town council veteran, was elected as her deputy.

Cllr Hussain, who was born in Banbury and has lived here all her life, works at St. Mary’s Primary School and serves as Labour councillor for Grimsbury. She will be Banbury’s first Muslim mayor.

The new mayor and Banbury’s councillors paid tribute to outgoing mayor Cllr Clarke, who handed out £800 cheques to his chosen charities, Breathe Easy and The Children’s Air Ambulance.
