Company Spotlight – BYHP’S On A Roll

This month’s ‘company spotlight’ is BYHP’s On A Roll. Sherri Manley,  answers a few questions:-

1.     How long has BYHP’s On A Roll been members of the Chamber?

We joined Banbury Chamber in 2011 when we opened our Social Enterprise operation in Church Lane.

2.     What are the major benefits for your company being members of the Chamber?

Being a member helps us build our profile in the local area. We have many local Chamber businesses who have supported us by ordering their corporate lunches, or just popping in to the sandwich shop on a day to day basis.

3.     Brief background of the company.

BYHPS ON A ROLL is a social enterprise funded by the BIG Lottery and gives young people aged 16-24 a chance to gain work experience, structured training and to build on their confidence to progress to either employment or further education.  Young People are trained initially at BYHP and do their work experience element in our training kitchen.

4.     Within the company what is your role?

I am the Catering Trainer and Shop Manager and have been working in the shop since it opened and running it for the last 18 months.  I can honestly say it’s been the best and most rewarding job I have ever done.  Seeing the smile on the face of a young person when they make a cake or soup or cooking southern fried chicken from scratch, to watching their confidence grow and being able to hold a conversation with a young person that was so shy when they started the course that we were lucky to get a hello out of them.

5.     What are the main things going on in your company at the moment?

We have trainees working in the shop Monday – Friday, one of which was runner up in the Plus One Personnel Trainee of the Year Award.  We continue to provide local companies with corporate lunches delivered in our refrigerated van and our shop continues to make healthy, nutritious products all from scratch.  Our Tiffin is one not to be missed!

6.     Do you think the business environment in Banbury is thriving?

Yes. More Young People are coming through our training scheme and the shop is getting busier on a day to day basis.  With the additional development that is planned in Banbury over the next year or so we are hoping that our footfall will increase.
