All schools need to meet the 8 Gatsby benchmarks, which covers quality careers provision in schools. These benchmarks are now part of the Ofsted inspection and schools need to have made progress with all eight by September 2020.
Benchmark 6 covers experiences of the workplace; it is all about given students the opportunities to see what a real work environment is like. All students need to have at least 1 workplace visit by the end of year 10, and again by the end of year 12.
In order to achieve this benchmark North Oxfordshire Academy is planning to arrange site visits to local employers from a wide range of industries. The visits are designed to give students experience of a real workplace, allowing them to talk to staff and get an idea of what it is like to work in various sectors. The students will be Year 9s between 13 and 14 years of age.
The groups will have no more than 16 students in each. They will always be accompanied by a member of the school staff. They are hoping to visit organisations from 2pm for around an hour, starting after the February half term.
If your organisation is able to support this initiative, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to pass this request to any businesses within the Banbury area.
